30 Lessons in 30 years

I will be turning 30 years old next month.  I’ve been reflecting on many things I’ve learned over the years and I’ve come up with 30 business lessons I’ve learned.  I will probably create a separate list that is not business related.

  1. Get Mentors.
  2. Always get paid upfront.  At least 50%.
  3. Take risks.
  4. Hire people that are smarter than you, and reward them for great work.
  5. Have solid contracts and update them to account for lessons learned.
  6. Don’t be afraid to fire clients.
  7. Eliminate limiting beliefs.
  8. You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with
  9. Keep a record of all communication with clients – email, audio and video recordings.
  10. If you are unsure that you want to proceed with a client or project, say no.  Its either 100% Yes, or 100% No.
  11. Don’t invest in something you don’t fully understand.
  12. Be different, use unconventional tactics to gain an edge.
  13. Know your value, and know how to convey that value to clients.
  14. The Internet is forever. Don’t type anything online you don’t want associated with you for the rest of your life.
  15. Say what you mean, and do what you say.
  16. People do business with those who they know, like and trust.
  17. Create multiple income streams.
  18. Learn how to sell. Don’t be afraid – just do it.
  19. Outsource what you don’t enjoy doing.
  20. Inbox Zero is challenging at first, but very rewarding.
  21. Just get started, and you’ll figure it out as you go.
  22. Create a business that solves people’s problems.
  23. Time is way more valuable than money – use it wisely.
  24. Always be improving.
  25. Never violate your morals for financial gain.
  26. You can become an expert a lot faster than you might think.
  27. The faster you fail, the faster you will succeed.
  28. Don’t neglect your health.
  29. Reinvest profits to grow faster.
  30. Set a goal, then 10x it.
